PINK OCTOBER: a month of care, courage, and gentle reminders
Pink October is the month when we pay special attention to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Unfortunately, it is the most common malignant tumor among women: approximately 1.5 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Treatment with methods such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy is an extremely difficult time and brings many side effects, such as fatigue, hair loss, and hypersensitive skin. The gentle touch of silk can bring comfort during therapy, and we hope that this article will help many of you – patients, their families, and friends.
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are treatments that can cause skin problems: dryness, irritation, and hypersensitivity. Contact with rough materials can cause significant discomfort. Silk, on the other hand, thanks to its smoothness and lightness, brings relief and relaxes the stressed body. Lightweight silkwear, delicate silk bedding, and eye masks gently envelop the body, making it easier to fall asleep, improving sleep quality, and thus supporting the body's regeneration. Silk's thermoregulatory properties are also important, warming the body when it's cold and cooling it when it's hot. This can be crucial when cancer treatment causes increased temperature sensitivity.
Hair loss is also a common problem among patients undergoing treatment. Therapies damage hair follicles, which disrupts their growth process, making them thinner and more fragile, and causing them to fall out. This is a difficult process for many women, whose self-esteem plummets and they feel they are losing their beauty. A rough pillowcase causes friction on the hair, further damaging it. Silk, on the other hand, thanks to its slippery nature, protects the hair from damage. Silk pillowcases, turbans, headbands, and scrunchies are gentle on sensitive hair and scalp and can slow down the hair loss process.

We know that nothing will completely eliminate the pain and stress associated with a breast cancer diagnosis, but we hope that silk will alleviate it, at least a little, and support the healing and regeneration process. At the same time, we wish strength, courage, and a quick recovery to all those battling cancer. Let's also remember about preventative care: self-examinations, regular mammograms, and consultations with a doctor as soon as any disturbing changes in our bodies appear.
Silky love,
